Blame Texas

Justing thinking about lifestyles a bit, and wondering how this country got to be this way. In an email from a friend, I was told that in Texas, you can recycle aluminum cans, but but not glass or paper or anything else. Litter is a problem and not surprisingly, consumption is rampant. The grocery stores hand out plastic bags like there is no tomorrow to shoppers who drive to and fro in their gas guzzling SUVs. Lawns are unnaturally green from fertilizer, pesticides, and irrigation. Children get new cars at 16 and usually trash two before they're 21. Shopping as a pastime.

Now, I'm aware that this lifestyle can be found in every state, but I like to think that Texas has created the model. After all, everything is bigger in Texas. Insert your own fat jokes here!

As a Texas native, I could have told you that (and more). We never recycled. My family that lives there still doesn't. It's manly to have at least two cars (which you trade in every two years for better models): a pickup and an SUV, preferably. (Sports car if you don't have kids.) Don't get grandma started now!!

Although they don't recycle white or colored paper, envelopes, or magazines they will recycle paper bags and cardboard. Guess you'll just have to keep all those porn mags, huh?
