Painting like mom's eye doctor
I was telling my mom about the art class I'm taking, sharing with her the theme I selected for my "body of work."
"Trash?? Who wants a painting of trash? Oh well, you would. You should paint a nice autumn scene with pretty fall colors like my eye doctor has in his office. He paints them all himself, you know. They're so nice! I've already picked out the one that I want..."
Anyway, my theme is 'trash' and I don't have to make an appointment with my eye doctor for inspiration. I see it pretty much everywhere I look. From yesterday's feature story on Alternet about Gone Tomorrow: The Hidden Life of Garbage by Heather Rogers, to this bit of puke-flavored advertising copy:
From kitchen to bathroom to patio and garage--there's nowhere they can't clean! The best part? Just toss' em when you're ready! No more germy, smelly sponges! Brillo® Scrub 'n' Toss® pads are so economical you don't have to feel guilty about throwing them away--so odor causing bacteria go where they belong...in the garbage! That's durable performance at a disposable price!

Hopefully after taking this class, I'll be able to paint as well as Dr. Moscowitz.
