Fun Facts about Costa Rica
Fact — Costa Rica has the world's largest protected environmental area per capita in the world-- fully 30% of its land is protected.
Fact—You will see the hottest men you have ever seen in your entire life. Ticos are slender, tan, muscular, and friendly. The Carribean men have ample muscles as well, beautiful long hair (often up in a bun or in dreds), and sparkly white teeth. Surfers typically wear low-hanging shorts with no underwear.
Fact — Costa Rica abolished their army in 1948 in favor of promoting programs in education, environmental protection, and economic development. I hope President Bush is reading my blog right now.
Fact—Weed is plentiful (at least in Puerto Viejo) and enjoyed casually and openly, but it is much, much less potent than weed in the States. Still, it’s very nice to be regularly and openly offered weed. The cocaine, I'm told, is much better. Columbia-provided, and all.
Fact — Costa Rica has nine active volcanoes, rainforests, cloudforests, waterfalls, forested mountains, pristine beaches, coral reefs, dramatic skies, and scenic countrysides. You will wish you brought more film.
Fact—Imperial is the official beer of Costa Rica, and it’s very delicious (similar to Pacifico) and inexpensive. Comes in 3 sizes!
Fact — Costa Rica has over 100 varieties of butterflies and over 50 varieties of hummingbirds. The blue butterfly is sexy and popular. See film: The Blue Butterfly, which was filmed in the Volio waterfall area of Bribri, where we hiked, swam, and explored (and slipped & fell once or twice).
Fact — The people are extremely helpful and friendly, and they even like North Americans. I can’t stress enough how kind the people were to us, everywhere we went.
