what's missing nowadays

I found this card in a pile of photos in one of my favorite stores in San Francisco, Scrap. Scroungers' Center for Reusable Art Parts (Scrap) is a nonprofit dedicated to stimulating environmental awareness and creativity in children and adults by reusing materials that traditionally have been discarded as waste. It's an amazing place to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon, flipping through old, dusty National Geographic magazines, blank journals, records or buckets of discarded photos. They've got fabric and office items and frames and....well, you just have to see it to believe it. Go to 834 Toland Street in San Francisco.

I wonder how and why this card got torn in half. Then penmenship screams old lady, and someday I hope mine will do the same. Though, I'm not into cursive all that much. It's hard to read, but this is what the 1/2 of the card says:

Dear Mrs. Gotus:

A few lines to let you know how sad I felt when you told me that your husband had gone to his rest. Been praying that God will give you comfort. Was very deeply moved by the tender and loving care with which you took care of him. That is something that is missing in our society nowadays. To see people devoted to each other
I don't think we need to see the other half of this card to understand what a thoughtful and kind person its author is.
