Roller-skating like Iron Maiden

“What’s the first concert you’ve ever been to?” someone asked the other night at my house. Trevor sheepishly admitted that his was Olivia Newton John. “Don’t you dare be shy about that!” I screamed. Then we started talking about what an awesome movie “Xanadu” is, with its neon-lit Greek Gods roller-skating through L.A. in the 1970s.

Most people don’t know that the film was directed by Robert Greenwald, who was in the news a lot this year for the controversial documentaries Outfoxed and Uncovered. This man could not be more genius!

From across the room, Pierre caught a snippet of our conversation and asked, “Iron Maiden?” He said that Iron Maiden have a really great song called Xanadu. “Yes, it’s a cover of Olivia Newton John’s version, right?” Some argued that she covered Iron Maiden’s version, but I like to think it’s the other way around. “Everyone knows that Iron Maiden were HUGE Olivia Newton John fans, Pierre. Duh!”
