don't trust corporate media

Have you read about the Downing Street Memo yet? Notice I said read, and not "heard." American media is ignoring this story becuase it's too powerful and could be too damaging to President Bush.

Go here for details: The Downing Street Memo website

It's a memo that records meeting minutes from a gathering of top intelligence officials. The report says that President Bush was intent on invading Iraq long before he sought Congress' approval. Bush called Iraq an urgent threat, but the memo says "the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy." British officials are not denying the memo's accuracy, and a former senior American official called it "an absolutely accurate description of what transpired."

American newspapers have barely mentioned this new evidence that Bush twisted the facts to justify war. Um, do you remember the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal and how it seeped through every page of every news publication for months? Yeah, well that was about sex. This is about the war that's killing thousands of American kids. American television, not surprisingly, haven't covered the memo at all.

Why? Why are they ignoring this story? Why is the top story on the Chronicle the Michael Jackson case? Why is it going largely unnoticed that we are subjected to government-produced news reports on syndicated news programs? Why does President Bush need his questions scripted at all of his town hall meetings and informal chats?

We should demand that network news cover this important story. News should not hide the truth or offer the public covert propaganda. Call or email these evening news shows (that I hope you don't watch) and ask for coverage on the Downing Street Memo:

Congress is on a long Memorial Day recess right now, but John Kerry said the following earlier this week:

"When I go back on Monday, I am going to raise the issue. I think it's a stunning, unbelievably simple and understandable statement of the truth and a profoundly important document that raises stunning issues here at home. And it's amazing to me the way it escaped major media discussion. It's not being missed on the Internet, I can tell you that."
