happily floating in the bubble
I love San Francisco! I can't say it enough. This story just fills me to the brim with glee. The rest of the country may be wishing a devistating earthquake will crumble this city into the ocean forever because of our "values," but this is the very reason why I belong here:
The article in the Chronicle goes on to explain that us environmentally concerned voting citizens agreed that evil Polystyrene styrofoam containers are nothing but greasy landfill and they end up breaking down into smaller nonbiodegradable fragments that pollute oceans, threatening marine and other wildlife. On the same ballot, San Francisco voters passed (8-3) a law that would pretty much put all crimes involving marijuana as the lowest priority for city police and law enforcement. This would affect how the district attorney adopts the same policy when prosecuting weed smokers.
I mean, really, when you think about it...what is more harmful to society? If you try to argue that weed is a gateway drug, I'll tell you that I've never done hard drugs and I have no yearning to do them. I have had plenty of opportunities and many (most?) of my friends at least do ecstacy. I think marijuana should be classified as a legal drunk, like alcohol. And I think that styrofoam (and plastic bags from grocery stores) should be outlawed everywhere. I could rant about this more, but I am short for time. So unless anyone disagrees then let it be said: San Francisco is the best city in the United States. We are willing to put the environment before conveinence and we are willing to admit that smoking a little herb will not destroy morality or families or society as a whole. (Shit, don't make me bring up Pastor Ted again!)

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Board of
Supervisors voted today to outlaw the use of Styrofoam and other polystyrene
products by city restaurants and to effectively decriminalize the use, sale and
cultivation of marijuana by adults.
